IMI launches €280 million Call for proposals on Ebola vaccines and diagnostics
IMI has launched a €280 million Call for proposals focusing on Ebola vaccines and diagnostics. The Call includes five topics:
- Topic 1: Vaccine development Phase I, II, and III
- Topic 2: Manufacturing capability
- Topic 3: Stability of vaccines during transport and storage
- Topic 4: Deployment and compliance of vaccination regimens
- Topic 5: Rapid diagnostic tests
The indicative IMI financial contribution for the five topics mentioned in this Call is up to €140 million. EFPIA companies are expected to provide an in-kind contribution of around €140 million.

How to apply to IMI’s Ebola Call
This Call is being run in a single stage, fast-track procedure and the deadline for submissions is 1 December 2014 at 17:00 CET (Central European Time / Brussels time). As this Call is being run in a single stage, Applicant Consortia should prepare a Full Proposal directly based on the proposal template which can be found on the Call web page. Full Proposals must be submitted via the IMI electronic submission tool SOFIA (Submission OF Information Application), which will open for submission on 22 November 2014.

Sign up for IMI’s webinars on the Ebola Call
IMI will hold webinars on its Call for proposals on Ebola at 14:00 on Wednesday 12 November and Monday 17 November. The webinars will feature presentations of the rules and procedures of this one-stage, fast-track Call for proposals as well as the topics. The webinars therefore represent an excellent opportunity to learn more about the Call and to get in touch with potential project partners.

The wider Ebola+ programme
IMI’s Ebola+ programme focuses on Ebola as well as other related diseases such as Marburg. Further Ebola+ Calls for proposals are in the pipeline, and could cover topics such as:
- Immunotherapy treatments for Ebola and related diseases
- New formulations for vaccines with improved thermo-stability
- Rapid diagnostic tests to allow long-term surveillance of Ebola and other haemorrhagic fevers
- The development of anti-virals
- The development of vaccines active against Ebola as well as related diseases

Further IMI Calls in 2014
The topics previously advertised as being part of IMI 2 – Call 2 will now form IMI 2 - Calls 3 and 4, which are scheduled to be launched simultaneously in December 2014. The six research and innovation topics will form IMI 2 – Call 3:
- Remote assessment of disease and relapse (RADAR), topic 1: central nervous system (CNS)
- Assessing risk and progression of prediabetes and type 2 diabetes to enable disease modification
- Linking clinical neuropsychiatry and quantitative neurobiology
- The consistency approach to quality control in vaccine manufacture
- Pertussis vaccination research
- Knowledge Repository to enable patient focused medicine development
IMI 2 – Call 4 will include one Coordination and Support Action:
- Enabling platform on medicines adaptive pathway to patients
